Fifty-seven thousand overdoses a year. A mortality rate that has surpassed those from car accidents. Concerns about HIV outbreaks.

The headlines are familiar to us all. The United States is experiencing an epidemic. Communities are responding, as they employ resources from within and from the federal government.

At ICS, we have been trying to do our part as well.

This includes research that taps into the SAMHSA DATA Waiver database managed by our sister organization DSG, Inc., to model and understand how geographic access to treatment providers affects overdose outcomes.

We also recognize that minority communities are uniquely at risk for specific types of opioid use disorders. Through our work running the Minority Fellowship Program for SAMHSA, we have been engaged in collaboration with fellows and mentors to understand these unique risks and how the treatment system may best respond.
